SUM Function Explained

The SUM function in Microsoft Excel adds all of the numbers in a range of cells and returns the sum of these values. It can be used to add up a column or row of numbers, or a combination of both. The syntax for the SUM function is =SUM(number1, [number2], ...), where number1 is the first number or cell reference to be added, and number2 is an optional additional number or cell reference to be added.

SUM(number1, [number2], ...)

  • number1: The first number or range of numbers to add.
  • number2: (optional) Additional numbers or ranges of numbers to add.
